It is interesting to see how dramatically the colors have changed over 30 years – from 1984 when the slides were taken, to 2014 when photographs were taken of the same artwork. I imagine storage conditions (heat and humidity) have affected the colors too. One wonders how the colors changed from when Bill first applied them to paper (anywhere from 1940-1984) to the time Bill took the slides in 1984. As mentioned in “About the Collection” the slide images rather than the 2014 photographs were used in the “Slides by Bill” section so that the colors are closer to Bill’s original intent. Here the images are four up with the original slide on the left and the new photograph on the right.
Bill’s slides cut off much of the artwork. The recent photographs captured the whole piece but the colors were different. Here are some examples. Again, original slide on left and new photograph on right.
